Deer Park Dollars for Scholars has two new scholarship awards available thanks to new local donors.

The Genaro (Teco) Monroy Memorial Scholarship for $500 is from the family of Deer Park High School teacher Addie Frost.  (Her uncle is Teco Monroy.)  In their donation letter they said "Teco was the Mexican National Boxing Champion in the 1940s and then spent the rest of his life serving the poor.  He has helped thousands of needy children and their families with their medical needs and daily living requirements.  He has been referred to as Santa Claus, because of all his work during the holidays.  Teco Monroy died in 2004 and is remembered by his family with this memorial scholarship."  Community service and athletic involvement are special requirements for this award.

Real Estate Marketplace is offering $2,100, divided between five school districts (Chewelah, Nine Mile, Springdale, Riverside and Deer Park).  The $420 award (per district) is for schooling or licensing.  This scholarship is also offered to adults.  It require 6 hours of job-shadowing in a real estate field (banking, loans, inspections, appraisals) with written verification of the time.  A letter of recommendation from the person with whom the job-shadowing is completed should be included with the application.
