Champion Fundraisers!

Wahkiakum Dollars for Scholars holds an annual Fishing Derby to raise funds to award scholarships to local students.  So, what did Wahkiakum DFS do when the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife closed the Columbia River to sturgeon fishing effective the day of the derby?  They continued as planned - minus the fishing!  Chapter volunteers threw the names of all registered fishermen who were present into the drawings that were originally planned for those who had caught a fish that day.  Over 300 barbecued salmon and chicken dinners were served and the funds raised exceeded the year before!! For their wonderful attitudes and success despite facing adversity, Washington Dollars for Scholars would like to recognize Wahkiakum Dollars for Scholars as Champion Fundraisers! Wahkiakum Dollars for Scholars has also held four successful fishing derbies where fish were actually caught.
